Nano's European avatar revealed

Tata Motors showcased the Tata Nano Europa which is intended for a future launch in select international markets at the 79th Geneva Motor Show.
The Nano Europa encompasses additional features as compared to the car destined for India in order to make it more suitable for European driving conditions as well as meet European regulations.

Speaking on the occasion at the Geneva Motor Show, Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors, said, "In India, the Nano will be launched on March 23, and the cars will be on display at company dealerships from the first week of April. The Nano has also generated wide interest in developed countries, since it's unveiling in Delhi and its presentation here last year. We are delighted to present the Nano Europa for future launch in such markets."

As compared to the version destined for India, the Nano Europa comes with a slightly longer wheelbase of 2.28 metres which marginally increases interior space. However unlike India, the Europa will come fitted with a 3 cylinder all aluminium MPFI engine mated to a 5 speed automatic gearbox.

The car will also have electric power steering. Tata promises that the Nano Europa, despite the larger engine, will continue to be extremely environmentally friendly and offer extremely low CO2 emissions - somewhere in the league of 100gm per kilometer. Safety has been increased on the Europa by offering the car with ABS, ESP and airbags.

Just like the Tata Nano, the Tata Nano Europa incorporates exterior compactness with interior comfort and seeks to provide motorists the pleasure and utility of personal mobility combined with affordability and environmentfriendliness , in a world where smaller, fuel-efficient cars are emerging as a preferred choice.

It works like this - the moment the vehicle is stopped at a signal, the engine auto shuts off.When you press the clutch, it restarts the engine.

Tata Nano finally launching

The Nano, slated to be the world's cheapest car, will finally go on sale in April after months of delay caused by problems at its main production plant.

Tata Motors, India's largest vehicle maker, said on Thursday it would formally launch the Nano on March 23, and buyers could start ordering the model by the second week of April.

"The cars will be on display at Tata dealerships from the first week of April," the company said in a statement.

The Nano, expected to be priced at around 1 lac(also known as 1 lac car), was unveiled with great fanfare at the Delhi autoshow in January 2008, and should have gone on sale in October.
The car will be available in standard and deluxe versions. Both versions will offer a wide range of body colors, and other accessories so that the car can be customized to an individual's preferences.

Stylish, comfortable

- Designed with a family in mind, the Nano has a roomy passenger compartment with generous leg space and head room.

- Can comfortably seat four persons. Four doors with high seating position make ingress and egress easy.

- With a length of 3.1 meters, width of 1.5 meters and height of 1.6 metres, with adequate ground clearance, it can effortlessly manoeuvre on busy roads in cities as well as in rural areas.

- Its mono-volume design, with wheels at the corners and the powertrain at the rear, enables it to uniquely combine both space and manoeuvrability, which will set a new benchmark among small cars.

Fuel-efficient engine

- The Nano has a rear-wheel drive, all-aluminum, two-cylinder, 623 cc, 33 PS, multi point fuel injection petrol engine. This is the first time that a two-cylinder gasoline engine is being used in a car with single balancer shaft.

- The lean design strategy has helped minimize weight, which helps maximize performance per unit of energy consumed and delivers high fuel efficiency.

- Performance is controlled by a specially designed electronic engine management system.

Meets all safety requirements

- The Nano's safety performance exceeds current regulatory requirements. With an all sheet-metal body, it has a strong passenger compartment, with safety features such as crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages, and the rear tailgate glass bonded to the body.

- Tubeless tyres further enhance safety.

Environment-friendly

- The Nano's tailpipe emission performance exceeds regulatory requirements. In terms of overall pollutants, it has a lower pollution level than two-wheelers being manufactured in India today.


- The high fuel efficiency also ensures that the car has low carbon dioxide emissions, thereby providing the twin benefits of an affordable transportation solution with a low carbon footprint.

Gujarat Gets Tata's Nano Plant

Tata Nano, the revolutionary small car from Tata Motors has a new home. The chairman of the Tata Group Ratan Tata on Tuesday announced the relocation of the Rs 2,000-crore Tata Nano project to Gujarat from Singur in West Bengal.
Tatas have got 1,100 acres of land at Sanand, about 35 kilometers from Ahmedabad. Members of the state cabinet and senior officials of the Tata group were present during the signing of the agreement. The mother plant was earlier meant to be located at Singur.
Tata said that the group had opted for Gujarat because it had "already lost a lot of time (in the Singur controversy) and urgency was the need of the day." "We had an urgency to move to a new location." The chairman said that the 'reputation of Gujarat' and the 'speed' at which provisions were made, forced him to opt for Gujarat.
This project, which will help Gujarat create it's own space in surface transportation, Mr. Modi said that the state is already known for the ship-breaking industry and had the likes of Bombardier at Vadodara which manufactures deluxe train coaches.

The chief minister also related a 100-year-old incident, when Ratan Tata's grandfather, Jamshedji Tata had helped Gujarat by donating Rs 1,000 during a famine to save cattle.

Bike for the same price of a TATA Nano?

Yamaha Motors India introduced a street sports bike in India sometime ago.They say its inspired from the race bike THE YAMAHA R1-one of the fastest bikes on earth. Its powered by a puny 150cc engine giving out approx 17 BHP.
It features a full fairing, front and rear disc, monoshock suspension system at the rear and twin lights.Once you see the bike, you would be impressed with the looks of it till you see those skinny tires-they look damn bad- I would request Yamaha to at least give broader tires to have the feel and look of a true sports bike!
The on-road price of this bike is approx 1.09 lac. Yeah, still cheaper than a Nano(approx Rs 20000).Now, keep this bike adjacent to the beautiful Nano, and judge yourself!Tata still rules!
